What
is Adult Day Care of North Texas?
Day Stay for Adults is a non-profit organization providing daytime
health care and social services for Denton County adults who are
chronically ill or impaired. The program is designed to restore
or maintain independence while providing support and relief for
family caregivers. Day Stay for Adults was formed by community-minded
citizens representing health-care providers, the government, churches,
industries, civic groups, and universities in the Denton area in
order to develop a licensed, and Medicaid contracted adult day care
program.
Day Stay for Adults is the only program in Denton County designed
to provide daytime respite for family caregivers who are responsible
for 24-hour care and need a break from the daily routines of care-giving.
The agency provides cost-effective and compassionate daytime healthcare
and socialization delivered by professional healthcare workers to
prevent expensive premature institutionalization. During their stay,
clients are provided with assistance with activities of daily living
including personal care, licensed nursing care and nutritious meals,
Clients have the opportunity to make new acquaintances and socialize
with fellow clients, staff, visitors and volunteers. While at the
center, clients participate in meaningful, stimulating, and fun
social activities designed to enrich their lives and provide continuing
educational opportunities. At the end of the day, they are reunited
with their families and the family unit remains intact with the
potential for a better quality family life.
Why
do we need this facility?
One of the most dramatic changes occurring in the nation today is the
aging of our population. Because people are living longer, serious
health problems often lead to medical and long-term needs that are
emotionally and financially devastating for many older people and
their families. An adult day care center provides a cost effective
option that permits participants who need health, social and related
support services to continue living at home with their family. It
also allows the family caregiver to continue his/her daily routine.
Who benefits from this organization?
We provide a protective environment for persons 18 years of age and
older who are frail, elderly, chronically ill or disabled and should not
remain at home alone. Remarkably, the age differences are usually no barrier
to the interaction of the clients. Both participants and family caregivers
benefit from Day Stay for Adults. Services are designed to improve each
participant’s quality of life while providing relief for family
members who are otherwise responsible for 24-hour care. The community
also benefits as Day Stay for Adults establishes a continuum of care in
the community, filling the gap in service to the frail, elderly, and the
disabled.
